About the SPA
The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) is a UK-based organisation dedicated to enhancing health, safety, and environmental awareness across various industries. Established in August 2000, SPA collaborates with employers, trade associations, and training providers to develop and implement nationally recognised safety passport schemes. Comprehensive Health & Safety Solutions Across Industries
The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) offers a wide range of nationally recognised health and safety passport training schemes tailored to the unique needs of various high-risk industries. These structured courses are designed to promote a consistent, compliant, and practical understanding of workplace safety, enabling businesses to meet legal obligations and reduce risk across sites.
Core Day – Foundation for All Sectors
All SPA courses begin with the Core Day. This essential module provides baseline health and safety knowledge, covering key topics such as hazard awareness, workplace safety, safe systems of work, environmental considerations, and personal responsibility. Completion of the Core Day is mandatory before progressing to any sector-specific training.
Industry-Specific Training Modules
After the Core Day, candidates move on to a second day of training focused on their specific work environment. SPA offers specialised safety passport schemes in the following sectors:
Petrol Retail – Designed for contractors working on petrol forecourts. Covers hazardous atmospheres, fuel delivery risks, ignition sources, and emergency protocols.
Food & Drink Manufacturing – Focuses on hygiene, contamination control, food safety standards, and mechanical hazards in production environments.
Mineral Products/Quarrying – Addresses specific risks in quarries and mineral extraction, including machinery, blasting safety, dust exposure, and site transport.
General Manufacturing – Tailored to factory and production settings, with emphasis on equipment safety, COSHH, manual handling, and working at height.
Live Events & Entertainment – Covers temporary structures, electrical safety, rigging, noise exposure, and crowd safety at event sites.

Certification & Validity
Each delegate receives a physical SPA Safety Passport photo card upon successful completion. These are valid for 3 years, after which a refresher course is required to maintain certification. SPA passports are widely accepted across UK industries and form an essential part of many contractor compliance requirements.
SPA training provides peace of mind for employers and gives workers the knowledge and confidence to work safely in high-risk environments. Whether you’re an individual looking to upskill or an employer seeking to certify your team, SPA passport training is a smart, compliant investment in workplace safety.
